Overseas meat markets

Demand for all meats, except pork, was low last week in Britain, reports the New Zealand Meat Board. While prices for domestic lamb have been fluctuating wildly, New Zealand lamb has seen a progressive consolidation of the recently increased values on an exdepot/ ex-store basis. bn the Smithfield Market, PL grade was quoted at 59.5-60 p per lb. Although beef trading was fairly light in the United States last week, prices for manufacturing beef have remained firm. Imported beef is maintaining a strong premium over similar grades of domestic beef. New Zealand cow beef prices averaged the same as last week — 105.5 cents per lb cif while bull beef prices rose by half a cent to 117.5 cents per lb cif. Few mutton sales to Japan were reported last week. The Meat Board is continuing to quote 59 United States cents per lb c and f for mutton trunks.
