Given in memory

Mr George Haxell, aged 94, a parishioner of St Mary’s Anglican Church, Addington, since 1908, sits beneath the three stainedglass windows he gave to the church in memory of his late wife, Margaret Ethel, whom he met at a church picnic in the early 1900 s. The windows, on the west side of the church, were designed by a Wellington glass artist, Mrs Beverley Shore Bennett, and made by Mffler Studios, of Dunedin. After 12 months of prepara-

tion they were installed last week and dedicated in a church service last Sunday, said the vicar of St Mary’s the Rev. Peter Williams, yesterday. The central window depicts Christ, “in glory,”

holding the book of life. The left window represents art and craftsmanship, and also Henry: Sewell, an early pioneer who gave the land for the church. The right window depicts human love, and love of Christian fellowship. > Connecting all three windows is'a rainbow, the “sign of the glory of God indwelling human life and the material creation.” It also suggested the joining of the holy and the homely in Christ,'Mr Williams said.
