Some petrol now cheaper

Canterbury motorists can fill up with cheaper petrol today.

Octane 91, which costs 3c a litre less than super grade petrol, will be available from Christchurch pumps today.

The new fuel will mean an average saving of $2 every time drivers fill their tanks.

Not all cars, however, will run on the new fuel, but most late-model Japanese and some European cars will run on it.

The following vehicles are those which the makers say are suitable to run on Octane 91:

Lada: All vehicles. Daihatsu: Charade GIOXG and XTE; Gil all variants, Cuore L4O/550cc, Daihatsu Hijet S7O. Renault: Some earlier models, R 5, Rl2, RI2TS, Rl5/ 17 and Rl6 depending on the vehicle specification. Ford: Courier, Econovan, Laser (excluding Laser with 1.5 twin-carburettor engine). General Motors: Holden, Gemini, Bedford CF Vans, Holden Rodeo.

Pony: All vehicles. Mazda: All New Zealandassembled vehicles. Subaru: All vehicles. Nissan-Datsun: All standard production vehicles. Suzuki: All imported twostroke vehicles and the SJ4IO, SSBO, ST9O models. Honda: All standard produc-

tion vehicles assembled in New Zealand. Todd Motors: Mirage 1.2 and 1.4 litre engines; Chrysler Valiant, 1976 onwards fitted with 318 cu. in V 8 engine; Mitsubishi Sigma, all 1.6 litre models; Mitsubishi Sigma (1977) 2 litre models only; Mitsubishi Lancer, 1.6 litre models only; Mitsubishi Celeste, 1.6 litre single-carburettor only; Mitsubishi Tredia, 1.6 litre normally aspirated models only, Mitsubishi Cordia, 1.6 litre normally aspirated models only. Octane 91 has been introduced as a replacement for Regular 83 which has been bypassed by advances in engine design.
