The tabloid papers all splashed the story of the bizarre murder and Megginson’s sentence across, their front pages yesterday. The reports say that the wealthy, retired New Zealand dentist she married had spent his summers in Britain.

AH the time, Mr Hubbers, a successful East End furniture maker, had been writing to her, pleading with her to return to Britain to live with him.

The letter that finally made her leave New Zealand said only, “Come back, Eva is dead,” a reference to, another mistress.
