Changes in meat schedule

PA Wellington Reflecting changes in lamb and mutton grading standards which take effect from the beginning of the new export season on October 3, a number of changes have been made in producer payments for stock. Payments for individual grades will also reflect grade relativities to the i minimum payments established by the Government under its Supplementary Minimum Prices Scheme for the benchmark grades lamb PM, 13kg to 16kg and mutton MX, 22kg and under. In line with a commitment by the Meat Board at the time of announcing the revised grading system, prices for lamb P and T grades will be the same for the duration of the 1983-84 season. The revised mutton grading system reflects a greater emphasis than previously on grade relativities for processing beyond carcase stage, including average weights, fat content, and meat yield. Payments for all beef grades are unchanged. However, with higher trigger prices established by the Meat Export Prices Committee for the 1983-84 season, buffer levies for all grades have been withdrawn.

Lamb and sheep skin payments will be announced by operators next week. Lamb prices for the South Island are PL 133.5 c (up 1c); PM 145.5 c (unchanged); PX 147.5 c (up 3c); PH 125.5 c (down 3c); TL 133.5 c; TM 145.5 c; TH 125.5 c; YL 137.5 c (up 1c); YM 153.5 (down 2c); A 131.5 c (up 3c); FL 68c; FM 82c; FH 90c; CL 98.5 c; CM 117.5 c; CH 118.5 c; M 35c (up 2c).
