The Church, pictured above, will appear on “Radio With Pictures” on

Sunday, and play in Christchurch on Tuesday evening, at the Sandridge Hotel. An Australian quartet, The Church are unashamed about their 1960 s influences. Even on their latest album,

“Seance,” the sound owes something to The Byrds and other such bands.

On the Australian leg of the “Seance” tour, The Church broke crowd records, and played five encores to a crowd of more than 2000 in Melbourne, two weeks ago.

They have received critical acclaim in England, where they have toured. Their biggest success in New Zealand was the 1982 single, “The Unguarded Moment.”

Tuesday’s show is the first in New Zealand. The

Church are also playing in Wellington, Palmerston North, Tauranga, and Auckland. Their guests for the Christchurch show are two local bands, They Were Ex-

pendable and Not Really Anything. Door sales ($10) only.
