Logan Dryham on target for series
Logan Dryham, having his first serious test for the season, showed that he was making fine progress towards the Lion Brown Three-year-old Series, which begins next Wednesday, when he won at the Addington trials yesterday. Logan Dryham was soon in front in the mobile 2000 m event and, although inclined to race keenly in the middle
part, he had too much ability for his rivals and he won by a conservative two lengths from Countess Royale and Cardigan Lord, both in Robert Dunn’s team. He paced the distance in 2min 375, the last 800 m in Imin 0.65, and the final 400 m in 30.95. Torpedo went well for an inexperienced youngster to finish fourth, just ahead of
Silverdale lad, which was travelling well at the line. Mike Adios, one of the early favourites for the Rokeby Handicap, the second leg of the T.A.B. treble at Ashburton, gained a decisive if narrow win in the penalty-bearing race. He came from the tail of the field at the 400 m and won well by a head from Hurry On and Bonnie Scotland. Follie Bergere, by Plat du
Jour, and Sigma, a brother to Capri, won the heats of the two-year-old parade. The first heat was won in Imin 58.3 s and the other in Imin 59.35. Freightman set the main for qualifiers when he returned 3min 10.1 s in what was virtually a solo run. He finished out on his own some 35 lengths in front of his nearest rival. Montrose (3min 14.75),
Paleface Lord (3min 14s), Scotch Lass (3min 15.15) and Seville (3min 15.95) were the other qualifiers. Out To Sea and Dandy Blue won mobile 2600 m events, while Kakama won the mobile mile in a slow 2min 5.95. Armbro Almont, Haughty Bay and Mister Kool were successful in other races for slow-class horses.
