One exception
When the new Fisheries Act comes into force tomorrow, the only people allowed to sell fish for a living will be commercial fishermen, defined in the new law as individuals who rely wholly or Substantially on fishing for their income. The one exception is whitebaiters, who will be able to sell any catch surplus to their needs. Only about 1500 of an estimated 5000 commercial fishermen are full-timers, according to the Federation of Commercial Fishermen.
