Nancy Reagan as host

NZPA Washington America’s First Lady, Mrs Nancy Reagan, will serve as a co-host of the A.B.C. television show, “Good Morning America,” on October 12, joining the permanent host, David Hartman, for a series of interviews with guests about drug abuse, her spokeswoman has announced.

The press secretary, Mrs Sheila Tate, said Mrs Reagan would conduct the interviews at the New York

studio, and that the entire two-hour show, except for news and weather breaks, would be devoted to the drug issue.

Among those who would be interviewed, said Mrs Tate, would be the VicePresident, Mr George Bush, head of the president’s task force on drug smuggling. “When the producers of ‘Good Morning America’ approached me with the proposal, the prospect of reaching so many people was too good to pass by. I am

grateful to A.B.C. for giving me this opportunity to help make millions of viewers more aware of the terrible problem of drug abuse in America,” Mrs Reagan said. The television programme reaches an average of six million viewers, primarily, in the 18-to-49 age group. The show will deal with use of drugs in sports, the workplace and entertainment. Among those taking part will be young people who have been involved in drug abuse.
