‘Sun’ aria to Aust.
NZPA Sydney An Australian, Christine Beasley, won the 1983 “Sun” Aria competition at the Sydney Opera House last evening. She was chosen from six finalists, including Suzanne George, of Dunedin, after a programme in which each of the finalists sang two arias. Ninety singers entered
the competition which, since 1933, has been one of Australasia’s premier classical singing competitions. The contestants were reduced during five heats to 16 semi-finalists, from whom finalists were selected last evening. Ms Beasley won sAust2soo and also won a scholarship to a European teacher worth ?Austssoo.
