Drop in youth road toll
PA Wellington The road toll among young drivers dropped 39 per cent in the first quarter of 1983, coinciding with the screening of the chilling “Graveyard” advertisements on television. The advertisement featured young people at a party drinking heavily and then driving to a graveyard, where their images faded to obscurity. The Accident Compensation Corporation journal has reported that the 39 per cent drop in the target agegroup road toll meant that the campaign was an unqualified success.
