Grocers approve move

PA Wellington

Grocers have backed moves to allow road transport to compete with the Railways.

“Government moves to free up the transport system will give a significant boost of confidence to the grocery manufacturing industry,” said the executive director of the Grocery Manufacturers’ Association, Mr Ernie Newman. “Freedom to choose between road and rail will* help grocery manufacturers to respond positively to the extra competition and opportunites arising from C.E.R.,” Mr Newman said of the Transport Amendment (No. 5) Bill.
