Jones-trained Orari hopefuls sprint well
Silver Print and Ariage, stablemates and mounts for John Dowling at the Geraldine meeting, sprinted strongly in company in training at Riccarton yesterday. Astral Row, another member of Peter Jones’s team, engaged at Orari, was one of the fastest of the solo sprint trialists. Silver Print and Ariage K‘ ited 1200 m on a small trial grass in Imin 21.45, the last 600 m in 38.65. Silver Print is in the Geraldine Cup at the Geraldine Racing Club’s meeting on Monday, and Ariage, a trials winner on Monday, will be tried at 2000 m in the Rangitata Maiden.
Astral Row hurried m from the 600 m in 36.5. She has the sharp speed to make her a respected lightweight in the Derrick Gould Handicap, second leg of the Geraldine T.A.B. treble on Monday. Rawgowan ran 1400 m in 1.315, the last 600 m in 39.45. Sovereign’s Will and Lady Beebee did well to run their 1400 m on the plough in Imin 31.65, the last 600 m in 395. Sovereign’s Will will be an interesting runner in the hurdles at Orari.
Handsome Heir led Astronomus by two lengths finishing 1200 m in Imin 24.45, the last 600 m strongly in 37.25. Handsome Heir will be
David Walsh’s mount in the Geraldine Cup. Five Over Five returned Imin 23.6 s for his 1200 m, and 40.4 s for the final 600 m. Gaffa and Just a Rebel followed in Imin 20.75, the last 600 m in 39.15. Their stablemate, Charles Beaufort, sprinted 1400 m in Imin 33.55, the last 600 m in 39.45. He is a picture of bright, solid condition.
Little Dan and Longline finished their 1400 m in Imin 335, the last 600 m in 39.45. Boots Again followed in Imin 33.45, and Mhorso in Imin 355, the last 600 m in 38s.
Macho Man and Durack were paired to run 1200 m in Imin 21.65, the last 600 m in 40.25.
Afore Ye did a working gallop on the plough in the hands of his trainer, Garth Jackson. He schooled earlier in the week, and could make an impression against the hurdlers at Wingatui. Donizetti did striding work over a round and, the next time round, breezed over 600 m in 36.25. He is one of the fancies for the Strathconan Stud Handicap, third leg of the Geraldine T.A.B. treble.
Auk Princess, one of Donizetti’s rivals at Orari, was paired with her stablemate, His Latest, to run 600 m on the grass in 37.65.
Tuesday and Dashing Fox sprinted 800 m on the grass, the last 600 m in 375.
