Works ahead

Motorists can expect to squeeze past these roadworks on Bealey Avenue for at least 10 more months.

The contractor, March Construction, Ltd, is laying stormwater and sewer piping for the Christchurch Drainage Board, and the work is, at some points, occupying two of the three lanes on the south side of the avenue.

The board accepted yesterday the contractor’s $325,000 tender to lay a new sewer in Bealey Avenue from Colombo Street to Knox Lane, near Papanui Road.

This work would start when the present drainlaying was completed, said the board’s chief engineer, Mr H. P. Hunt, yesterday. “The good news is that the next job will only be one sewer pipeline, rather the two being laid at the moment, and so the works will be a little narrower,” he said.
