Unusual tip Reports that waitresses in the French quarter clubs in New Orleans were receiving unusual tips, packets of cocaine, have led to the arrest of two men charged with having $NZ27,000 worth of the drug, Pablo Canovas, aged 35, of Gainesville, Florida, and Oscar Rodriguez, aged 37, of Miami, have been arrested.—New Orleans Satellite
abandoned India’s first locally-pro-duced experimental telecommunication satellite has been abandoned after 27 months in space and after completing its mission. The satellite, Apple, was abandoned after its fuel ran out. Apple surpassed its designed life by three months.—New Delhi.
A.S.E.A.N. link Arrangements are almost complete for the admission of the oil-rich sultanate of Brunei to the Association of South East Asian Nations after its independence from Britain next year. Brunei, a 3500 sq km British dependency which shares the island of Borneo with Malaysia and Indonesia, will become A.S.EAN.’s sixth member. The others are Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Philip-pines-Jakarta. 17 hanged Seventeen people convicted of drug trafficking have been hanged in Teheran’s Qasr prison.
