Crichton extended in kart racing
Paul Crichton triumphed in the 125 cu cm gearbox class at the Christchurch Kart Club’s race meeting at Carrs Road Raceway on Sunday. However, he was made to work hard by Bruce Bayliss and Lyndsay Paterson.
Two accidents occurred and, in one, John Parlane, competing at his second meeting in the lOOcu cm junior class, rolled his kart and he was taken to hospital with a dislocated shoulder. In the other Bob McWhinnie crashed his kart into a fence after a pileup at the first corner. After treatment, he was able to race later in the day. The junior class racing proved very close and exciting between Damon Sayer, Ross Rutherford, Chris Hyde, Shane Drake and Nigel Wilkinson, Drake taking top honours.
In the lOOcu cm senior class, Murray Davies, after trying to pass his arch-rival, John
Hamilton at every comer, got alongside Hamilton with one lap remaining and managed to beat him out of the last bend.
