Fast for Life

Sir,—Carl Horn says that those who fast to death are attempting to effect change by making others feel guilty and asks if this is any better than physical or verbal abuse. If the talks in Geneva fail and cruise and Pershing missiles are deployed in Europe it will take six minutes for a nuclear attack to occur. A technological error could bring disaster. People who are fasting are bringing these facts before people and they are certainly trying to influence world leaders. They believe the danger is so extreme that they are willing to make a great personal sacrifice. What is a little guilt compared to the present prospects.—Yours, etc., J. McLEOD. September 19, 1983.
