Johns in top bowling form

Nancy Johns displayed the same precise form which won her the recent masters singles title when she took the Umpires’ Association’s Farmers Cup indoor bowls pairs event at the Kearney’s Road hall on Sunday.

Johns teamed with Vai Mains (Northcote) to become the first women’s combination to win the trophy. The pair fought a close final with Lloyd Bellis and John Graham (Hoon Hay W.M.C.) before winning, 13-7.

The Northcote team made a break on the fourth end of the final when Johns trailed the jack for three and drew a fourth shot to lead, 6-1. Johns

continued to play confident bowls and held the edge throughout. Fifty-four teams qualified for post-section play from the 160 entries.
