Offensive weapon brings jail
PA Auckland A man has been jailed for two months for carrying an offensive weapon — the jagged necks of two broken milk bottles.
Sentencing Stephen Hone Cook, aged 21, unemployed, of Bayswater, Judge Nicholson said in the District Court at Auckland that he had had enough of people carrying weapons in the city.
Cook pleaded guilty to the charge. Segeant Gary Robertson said that Cook was seen walking along Queen Street carrying two empty milk bottles, which he smashed on the footpath. He put the jagged necks of the bottles in his pocket. He told the police he did it because he was “hassled” and would use the bottles if he had to.
