Canty Colts win

In the curtain-raiser to the North-South match at Blenheim Canterbury Colts had the better of a lack-lustre match to beat Marlborough Colts, 144, on Saturday. Canterbury led, 3-0, after a disappointing first half, with the forward packs cancelling each other out in the set pieces, and little constructive play from the backs.

The game opened up in the second half, with both sides creating scoring opportunities. Canterbury snapped up two of its scoring chances to extend the lead, and finished the stronger of the two teams to hold on for a comfortable win. Scorers: Canterbury Colts, 14 (J. Mounce, J. Leggatt, tries; D. McKinnell 2 penalties), Marlborough Colts, 4 (G. Logan try).
