Chch ice skater on ‘World of Sport’

New Zealand’s most promising ice skater, Carey Shepherd, aged 14, from Christchurch, will be interviewed on “World of Sport” on One this evening. Also on the programme will be the veteran All Black lock, Andy Haden, who will talk about his introduction to rugby and the changing nature of the game. He will also give an insight into what to expect in his new book, “Boots ’n All,” which is due for publication soon. Simon Owen, runner-up in the British Open Golf Championship in 1978, will be shown coaching a group of young golfers in the basics of the golf swing.

In the first series of “World of Sport,” the former Commonwealth Games butterfly gold medallist, Dave Gerrard, who is director of medical services for student health at the University of Otago, examined the basic components that make up a total fitness package. In this new series he will look at the stresses encountered and the strength required for particular sports. This week running will come under scrutiny. Danny Watson will give details of a fitness survey which will be used to establish parameters for testing fitness levels among New Zealand school children.
