Lucky day for Ohoka boy
The initiative of an Ohoka Primary School boy won a $l3OO eight-day trip for two to Sydney, including air fares and accommodation.
An elated Andrew Combridge, aged 12, will share the prize with his mother, Marjorie. For both of them it will be their first trip overseas.
They are shown above studying a tour brochure with Mr Andrew Davidson, the general manager of the promoting company, the McAlpines Rangiora Group, after he presented Andrew with the tickets.
McAlpines’ shoppers were able to enter the competition by submitting the number of times the company’s name appeared in a brochure of the company’s pro-
ducts and services, distributed recently. The month-long competition carried 20 daily prizes of handyman tools and heaters ranging in value from $55 to $75, with the winners chosen by lot from the correct entries. All of the correct entrants also participated in the final draw for the tour prize. It was success at first try for Andrew, who is very much an outdoor boy. His interests include riding his 90 cu cm motor-cycle about the family farmlet (he earned half the money for the motor-cycle from his own efforts), playing rugby, swimming, fishing, and shooting.
Andrew and his mother have not finalised the' details of their tour but they intend going soon.
