National boxing titles
PA Timaru Fast and furious Vincent Marino scored his second win at the national boxing championships in Timaru last evening.
On the opening night Marino (Gisborne) beat Bruce Mclntosh (Wellington) in the preliminary bouts of the 57-60 kg class.
He met Les Bower (Southland) in the second round and found him a game opponent. However, the always advancing Marino proved too fast and too strong for Bower in a bout fought at a furious pace. Marino meets Julius Leuii in the final tonight. Results.—

ity decision, Tua Leefe (Northland) beat Glen Duncan (Oamaru) unanimous. 52-54 kg: Joe Royal (Central North Island) beat Chris Gee (Otago) unanimous. 54-57 kg: Peter Brown (Hutt Valley) beat Kevin Curran (Southland) majority decision, Wayne Barber (Oamaru) beat Pio Anitelia (Auckland), referee stopped fight through injury. 57-60 kg: Julius Leuii (Central North Island) beat Ron Richmond (Bluff) unanimous. 57-60 kg: Vincent Marino (Gisborne) beat Les Bower (Southland) majority. 51-54 kg: Johnny Wallace (Southland) beat A. Reiri (Oamaru) by a walkout. Stephen Gemmel (Central North Island) beat Chris Hale (Central North Island) through a retirement. 57-60 kg: Shane Everest (Canterbury) beat Stephen Wineera (Central North island) unanimous.
60-63.5 kg: Lance Austin (Canterbury) beat Patrick Dobbin (Central North Island) by a majority, Mark Hill (Auckland) beat Shane Gush (Manawatu) referee stopped contest. 67-"lkg: Ben Katu (Waikato) beat Cameron Todd (New Plymouth) by knockout, Alex Dickson (Southland) beat Nick Adams (Canterbury) by a majority.
