PA Wellington Holiday sporting tournaments continued throughout New Zealand. Unless otherwise stated, results concern teams in the circulation area of “The Press.” UNIVERSITIES The New Zealand universities winter tournament continued in Auckland yesterday. Results: Debating: Canterbury beat Auckland Paul. Netball: Auckland 29. Canterbury 23; Massey 34, Canterbury 23. Smallbore rifle shooting: Victoria, 2301.67, 1; Canterbury 2294.49, 2. Rugby league: Victoria 14, Canterbury 10. RUGBY The South Island under-18 rugby tournament continued in Dunedin yesterday. Results: Otago 31, West Coast 3; Nelson Bays 6, Buller 0; South Canterbury 16, Mid-Canterbury 13; Marlborough 42, North Otago 0. Low scoring was a feature of most of the games on the second day of the South Island schoolboy rugby championships in Invercargill yesterday. The Canterbury senior team beat Otago 20-4 in the only high-scoring game. Canterbury tries were scored by Aaron Greenwood (2) and Jeremy Young (2). Kevin Wilson scored for Otago. The Canterbury v. Southland junior game was hard fought and scoreless. Results: Junior (under 42kg): Southland A 0, Canterbury 0. Senior (under 56kg): Canterbury 20, Otago 6. HOCKEY Christchurch Boys’ High School will play Auckland Grammar and Wanganui High School will strike Shirley Boys’ High School this morning in

the semi-finals of the Rankin Cup national secondary schools’ hockey tournament at Lower Hutt.
