Education an election issue?

PA Blenheim The president of the New Zealand Parent-Teacher Association, Mr Peter Edwards, has called on parents and teachers to become political to overcome what he sees as problems with the New Zealand education system. At the opening of the N.Z.P.T.A. conference in Blenheim yesterday, Mr Edwards said education must be made an election issue if the N.Z.P.T.A. was to see an improvement

“We have seen drastic cuts in education recently,' our class size policy has been rejected, school rolls are falling, and the learning options of many children are being reduced,” he said.

“This provides our education system with a' tremendous and expensive resource which is going to be squandered if we do not do something about it.” .
