PA Wellington The Budget debate will continue next week, said the Leader of the House, Mr Thomson, when Parliament resumed at 9.30 a.m. yesterday.
Private members’ notices of motion and Ministerial replies to questions will be debated on Wednesday and local bills on Thursday. The annual report of the trustees of the National Library was tabled. The Junior Opposition Whip, Mr S. J. Rodger (Dunedin North), gave notice of his intention to introduce the Dunedin Drainage and Sewerage Amendment Bill.
Members tabled notice of nine other motions and Ministers replied to 13 questions, including an urgent one.
Mrs Margaret Shields (Lab., Kapiti) brought the Statistics (Unemployment and Household Labour Force Survey) Amendment Bill into the House. It failed to be introduced on a 36-37 division.
Mr R. W. Prebble (Lab., Auckland Central) introduced the Great Barrier Island (Mining Privileges) Bill and it was sent to the Local Bills Select Committee.
The Maori Trust Boards Amendment Bill was reported back from the Maori Affairs Select Committee without amendment. The House adjourned at 12.55 p.m.
