Short-course swim records

Two short-course Canterbury swimming records have been broken by swimmers at the Wharenui pool recently. Kate Stokes broke her own record in the girls’ 10 years 100 m butterfly by 1.1 seconds with a time of 1:22.6. She set her first mark two months ago, bettering a time held by Trudy Garland since 1973. In the girls’ 11 years 200 m backstroke, Melissa Robertson, with a time of 1:50, beat the previous record, held by Janice Murdoch since 1972, by two seconds. Both girls swim for the New Brighton club.
