N.Z. frigate at Timaru

H.M.N.Z.S. Otago will show the flag in Timaru over the week-end.

The frigate, under the command of Commander R. J. Eckford, arrived at the Port of Timaru from Dunedin yesterday. While in Timaru her crew will take part in several competitive sports with local sides as well as ski-ing. Endeavour spa scouts will board the Otago this morning. The Clementine, which was expected at Timaru on August 27, has been replaced by the Saxonia, of 12,000 tons. One of the old Cunard fleet, she was the Gladiola until 1976 when she became the Saxonia. She will be in port from August 31 until September 14, when she will return to the Soviet Union. The vessel will load 4650 tonnes of meat, part of the New Zealand Meat Board’s contract with the Soviet Union. Inshore forecast The inshore weather forecast for Lyttelton Harbour to the Waimakiriri River mouth is for south-west winds to 20 knots, becoming variable to 10 knots during Saturday.
