Sailor to die
The Soviet Communist Party daily, “Pravda,” reports that a mechanic in a Soviet merchant marine ship has been sentenced to death for killing his captain and warned that, “weakness, spinelessness and dishonesty have no place on the sea.” Dozens of other sailors have received less harsh sentences and thousands have been investigated, the “Pravda” report said, as the Kremlin focused its recent drive to instill discipline among Soviet workers on the merchant marine fleet. — Moscow.
