Gelli ‘hid in monastery’
NZPA Geneva Licio Gelli, the Italian Masonic Lodge fugitive, hid temporarily in a Trappist monastery after escaping from prison in Geneva, the newspaper “La Suisse” reported yesterday. Gelli is wanted about the collapse of the Ambrosiano' Bank and for influence-ped-dling through his P2 Masonic Lodge. After escaping from the prison on the night of August 9, Gelli left the Annecy, France, airport for Nice on the French Riviera aboard a helicopter, the newspaper said, quoting a Nice Police Chief, Etienne
i Ceccaldi. The helicopter, at the pasi sengers’ request, had I changed direction in midflight and landed at Monaco, ; where Gelli had caught a i yacht that took him to the Trappist monastery on Saint-Honorat Island near Cannes. r After he disappeared from Saint-Honorat, the police lost track of him. Pretending to have a painful toothache, Gelli had held his head between two pillows in the helicopter, which had been rented a week earlier from the HeliTransports Company in Cannes.
