Final day for F.O.L. economist

PA Wellington The Federation of Labour’s economist, Mr Alf Kirk, will attend a meeting of the long-term wage fixing reform committee on his final day of work for the F.O.L. today. The F.O.L. executive said farewell to Mr Kirk at a special luncheon in Wellington on Monday.

The former Treasury economist, who joined the F.O.L.’s research department 4% years ago, once again declined yesterday to elaborate on his reasons for leaving.

“They’re personal,” he said. He intended pursuing private research work. Earlier this week, the president of the F.0.L., Mr W. J. Knox, said Mr Kirk had informed the executive his decision to leave was not based on any disenchantment with the F.O.L. leadership. Mr Knox said a decision had been made on Mr Kirk’s replacement and an announcement could not be made “at this time.”
