Fifth successive win

NZPA-Reuter Newport, Rhode Island Australia 11, whose backers are embroiled in a dispute with the New York Yacht Club over the legality of the boat’s unorthodox keel, won its fifth race in a row with contemptuous ease yesterday and booked its place in the final of the trials to choose an America’s Cup challenger. Australia II assumed a commanding lead early in

its race yesterday against the Italian boat Azzurra and eventually won by two minutes and 26 seconds over the 24.3 mile course. The win ensured Australia II a place in the final, best-of-seven series of races starting on August 28 to decide the challenger. In the final it will race against either Azzurra, the British boat Victory ’B3 or Canada I.
