Seed congress
New Zealand is to host a major international seed congress in 1987.
The Federation Internationale du Commerce des Semences (F. 1.5. or international seed federation, which was founded more than 50 years ago, groups seed importers and exporters from more than 50 countries.
Announcing the F.I.S. decision the president of the New Zealand Agricultural Merchants’ Federation, Mr
John Reese, highlighted the increasingly prominent part played by New Zealand in world seed trading. “It is not many years ago that New . Zealand first gained a seat on the international executive of F. 1.5.,” he said.
The main objective of the F.I.S. is to facilitate the exchange of seeds for sowing, worldwide. The 1987 convention is likely to be held in Christchurch.
