Farmer, sheep fall
Trying to rescue a trapped sheep landed an Evans Pass farmer in Christchurch Hospital yesterday afternoon. The sheep was apparently stuck on a cliff near the top of the Sumner-to-Lyttelton Road. The farmer went to the rescue and crawled down the cliff to the stricken
animal. Unfortunately, he lost his footing and both he and the sheep crashed about 7m to the road below. A St John Ambulance spokesman said the farmer sustained head and back injuries in the fall. The sheep was also hurt.
The farmer’s name and condition were not available last evening.
