Four Avenues
Sir,—The decision to close Four Avenues school is directly contrary to the recommendations of the O.E.C.D. report on secondary schools. The report says: “The availability of alternative types of upper secondary education would be of benefit to New Zealand, especially in view of the current uniformity of school types throughout the country.” Many staff, students, and parents over eight years have worked hard to establish a workable alternative school, appropriate to Christchurch. The Minister ignores the O.E.C.D. recommendation and the positive support given to the educational worth of the school by his own inspectorate.—Yours, etc.,
D. J. ROWLANDS. August 17, 1983.
