Royals go on holiday
NZPA Aberdeen The Queen, Prince Charles, the Princess of Wales, and other members of the Royal Family gathered at Balmoral Castle in north-east Scotland yesterday for their annual summer holiday. Prince Andrew, sporting a beard he grew during a 321 km canoe trip in Canada last month, arrived at the north-east Scottish port of Aberdeen aboard the Royal yacht Britannia with his mother. Andrew’s American-born actress girlfriend, Koo Stark, aged 27, was not with them. She is in Sydney, where she is due to appear on Australian television with the interviewer, Michael Parkinson.
Miss Stark has reportedly refused to discuss in the interview her friendship with the Prince, a Royal Navy helicopter co-pilot and Falklands, war veteran. The British tabloid, the “Sun,” said that Miss Stark would talk instead about her mother and father and the pressure she lived under. But it quoted Parkinson as saying: “We are not expecting to get a tell-all style of interview. But I would obviously have been delighted if I could have included some news of the romance along the way. That’s not going to happen now.” Other Royals at Balmoral are Prince Edward, Princess Anne and her children, Zara, aged two, and Peter, aged five. Princess Anne’s husband,
Captain Mark Phillips, has remained in western England, busy with the harvest on the couple’s Gatcombe Park farm in Gloucestershire. When Captain Phillips stayed behind at Gatcombe last year there was speculation that the couple’s marriage was foundering. Captain Phillips denied the reports.
Prince Charles, the Princess of Wales, their 13-month-old son, William, and his nanny, Barbara Barnes, flew to Aberdeen’s Dyce Airport and then drove to Balmoral. Prince Philip greeted his family at Aberdeen. He has been in Scotland since Saturday, taking part in one of his favourite sports, horse carriage driving.
