N.Z. soccer loss to Fiji
NZPA Suva The Fiji soccer team beat New Zealand 2-0 last evening at the National Stadium in Suva. Both goals came from Tony Kabakoro (right wing) in the forty-fourth minute of the first half and the twenty-sixth minute of the second. Conditions were wet, cold and heavy. Punches flew after the. Fijian win at the National Stadium. Fiji’s manager, Jahir Khan, was punched as he walked over to congratulate his players after the game. “It just goes to show how poor sportsmen they are,” Khan, an inspector in the Royal Fiji Police Force, said.
The match was a bruiser all round. Two Fiji players had to be taken from the field inK, including the . goal- . !r, who was taken off on a stretcher after being kicked. Tony Kabakoro, who scored both Fiji's goals, limped off minutes after his second goal after being kicked in the ankles earlier. It was a night of missed opportunities for the New Zea- t land side. They missed at least four goals. But the Fiji side took much of the credit for those misses. The home side’s man-to-man marking was immaculate and consistently denied the Kiwis time to settle down and space to move.
