Youth rate criticism
PA Wellington Fifteen year olds employed in cleaning or labouring jobs would get $42 a week against the present award rate of $l6O if youth rates were introduced according to the Federation of Labour secretary, Mr K. G. Douglas. Mr Douglas told Wellington High School students no
wage differentials now existed in' the cleaning and labouring industries. If youth rates eventuated, youngsters would find dramatic reductions in their pay packets. Mr Douglas said the F.O.L. would fight to protect the concept of equal pay for equal work and would oppose the youth rates plan.
