Wong exhibits
One of New Zealand’s most fascinating painters, Brent Wong, will exhibit at the Brooke/Gifford Gallery from August 15. Often described as a surrealist painter, Brent Wong’s work shows the the contrast between human and geological time scales. Man’s efforts at permanence are seen in his paintings as derelict uninhabited structures in a relentless landscape. Time is the major theme in Mr Wong’s paintings and
is itself a physical element in the work. His later paintings have been worked on, ' contemplated and developed over a period as long as five or six years. The only constant factor is the sky, particularly the 1 painstaking treatment of clouds which are meticul- • ously painted and, in some of the paintings are the - central concern. The exhibition will consist of 11 paintings. It is Mr Wong’s first major South Island exhibition.
