Rules for truck operators
Truck operators have many legal obligations to fulfil, and the No. 9 Trans!>ort Licensing Authority Mr D. L. Hogan) has urged the Christchurch Road Transport Association to remind its members of their
obligations. The bulk of the regulations are contained in the Transport Licensing Regulations 1963. Among the main points are:— ® Operators can not drive for more than five hours and a half continuously, then a minimum of 30 minutes break.
® Operators cannot drive for more than 11 hours in a 24-hour period. ® Operators must have at least 10 consecutive hours rest in a 24-hour period. • Operators must have 24 consecutive hours rest in a seven-day period. “Driving” includes other work in connection with the service, such as loading, unloading, collecting cash, etc. • A time record for every driver, including owner-drivers, showing
start times, stop times and refreshment breaks. These are to be retained for six months and be available for inspection. © Accounting records are to be kept in such a way as to permit a statistical form in the form provided, and this return must be made each year. ® Among the things to be carried in the vehicle are: Vehicle authority, driver’s licence, road user charge licence, certificate of loading, certificate of fitness, and waybill showing the date, owner-consignor of the goods carried, point of pick up, owner-consignor, point of set down and description of all goods carried. ® To be shown on the vehice are the name and domicile of licencee and the tare weight
