Fisheries plan work to continue

Parliamentary reporter

Contracted fishing vessels will do fisheries management plan work formerly done by the decommissioned W. J. Scott, according to the Minister of Fisheries, Mr Maclntyre. A total of $lOO,OOO has been allocated for this in the 1983-84 year.

“This vote will allow for as much work as would have been done by the W. J. Scott, with the added advantage of greater flexibility and industry involvement,” Mr Maclntyre said.

He was answering questions in Parliament about the future of management

plan work after the decommissioning of the W. J. Scott. Sir Wallace Rowling (Lab., Tasman) asked what work was now being done. Mr Maclntyre said he was unable to answer in detail. He believed management plan work would be done where and when necessary. Mr T. K. Burke (Lab., West Coast) asked whether the W. J. Scott was the only vessel doing management plan work. Work done by other fisheries vessels was relevant to the management plan, Mr Maclntyre said.
