The Rev. David Boyd, of St Paul’s Anglican Church in Papanui, inspects the alterations being made to the belfry of the church. A steel frame is being installed to accommodate two new bells arriving from England on August 15. A two-year fund-raising appeal by the church raised $27,000 to cover the cost of the new bells, the alterations, and the refitting and tuning of the original six bells. Stainless steel staples have been added to the old bells to replace the corroding iron staples.
