Roydon Magic in sound win at Addington
By
G. K. YULE
Roydon Magic showed that he was ready to break through for an overdue win at the Kurow meeting next Monday when he was successful at the Addington trials yesterday. Roydon Magic, second in three' starts since his last success, began splendidly and was prominently placed all the way. He came through along the rails and won handily by half a length from Mel’s Boy, which shaded The Sting, with the pacemaker, Duplex Hanover, next, ahead of Wiki Wiki and Sun Seeker. Roydon Magic will start from 10m in the Duntroon Handicap, the second leg of the double at the Kurow meeting. Mel’s Boy and The Sting continued their preparations for the national meeting, which opens on August 20, with sound races from 40m. Both look to be well forward. The 2600 m took 3min 34.65, by no means the fastest of the day. However, it was the final event on a programme run in bitterly cold, wet conditions. The last 800 m took Imin 1.55, with the final 400 m in 295. McQueen showed dash to
win the main race for trotters in 3min 39.95, with the final 400 m in 29.75. The eye-catching run came from Game Command, which started from 30m and made ground resolutely near the end. He looks much more robust and should be in for a most successful season.
Jeremiah went quite well for third, ahead of Batal.
The other race for trotters was won in style by Falcon Lad in 3min 395. He looked to trot much more squarely and will not be without a good chance in the R.A. Paterson Memorial at the Kurow meeting. Noble Advice went fairly for second, ahead of Allemand, which showed speed after an early break. Shoe Shine Mac, Yasmin, Daisy Duke, Lord Don, Isotronic, Ballochmyle, Dreamy Judge, Yellow Ribbon and Rameses all shaped satisfactorily in races for slow-class pacers.
