War finale nears
The last heat of the 1983 Christchurch War of the Bands will be held tonight. The contest is proving as big a success as last year’s. Each night has so far attracted good crowds, with the first semi-final, last Saturday, being an early highlight Two of the finalists for this Saturday were found then — White Boys and- Venetians — but the judges said that the com-3|
petition was close for the finalists’ spots. There was a dead heat for first in the fourth heat, last Friday, so that made the judges’ task even more difficult. Tomorrow evening, the second semi-final will find another two bands for the final. The winning band will go forward to the “Shazam!” national title in Auckland, among other prizes.
