Report due tomorrow
NZPA Sydney The report of the New South Wales Royal Commission into the Kevin Humphreys case will be presented to the state Governor, Air Marshall Sir James Rowland, on Thursday. The Royal Commissioner, Sir Laurence Street, the Chief Justice of New South Wales, announced yesterday that he would personally present the report to Sir James early Thursday afternoon. The Royal Commission was announced by the At-torney-General, Mr Paul Landa, in May after allegations made in the A.B.C. “Four Corners” television programmme concerning the Humphreys case. The commission is investigating whether a
j former chief stipendiary magistrate, Murray Far- - quhar, influenced or ati tempted* to influence the
outcome of committal proceedings against a former rugby league boss. If so, the commission was also required to look into whether this had been at'the direction or request of the premier, Mr Neville Wran. Mr Wran stepped down as premier for the duration of the commission which heard 23 days of evidence. The Government had said that the report by Sir Laurence would be made public. Mr Humphreys was charged in 1977 on nine counts of having misappropriated sums totalling sAusts2,sl9 while secretarymanager of the Balmain Leagues Club. Mr Kevin Jones, S.M. dismissed all the charges after a two-day hearing.
