Shield puzzle beyond most
The Ranfurly Shield word puzzle which appeared in “The Preu” on the morning of the North Otago challenge last week proved too tough for most readers. The solations are shown.
Only one folly correct entry was received and it was submitted by Simon Segue, of 10 Tyrone Street, Belfast.
Thirteen entries had two wrong answers, and the two prize-winners, drawn from these were, in order, Stuart Westoby, of 7 Carol Place, Christchurch, and Stephen Taylor, of 36 Agnes Street, Ashburton.
, Mr Seque and Mr Westoby receive the top prizes of copies of the book, “Graham Mourie—Captain,” plus two tickets to tomorrow’s Southland challenge. Mr Taylor wins two tickets to tomorrow’s game. ■ Another puzzle, relating to the Southland challenge, will appear on a special Ranfurly Shield page tomorrow.
One of the answers to last week’s puzzle was the surname'of" a North Otago player, Mike Direen, who withdrew from the squad too late for the clues to be changed. This may have confused some of the contestants, but a word in the clue was an anagram of the
man’s name and this was obviously spotted by some of those who entered. It may, however, be worth noting that the clues are prepared about a week in advance, and are as up-to-date as possible at that time.
