Male image

Sir,—l was quite annoyed tonight when I viewed “Close Up.” A section of the programme was about Allan Hewson, the All Black full-back, and a reputation he has among some for being weak. It just proves that the male part of New Zealand society is far behind the times with their ideas of being a man. Allan Hewson appears to be very sensible when it comes to keeping himself warm. I can see that the average New Zealand male thinks that men should not cry, they should not get cold, they should not be sensible. Instead they must put out the garbage and go and play rugby in atrocious weather without adequate protection. These attitudes not only show their Victorian ideas but proves they are the foolish rather than Allan Hewson. — Yours, etc.,

WARREN LADBROOKSLOAN. July 13, y 1983.
