Corporation looks at Asian trade

The Shipping Corporation plans to enter the Hong Kong and Asian shipping trades, says its chairman, Mr H. L. Julian. The corporation was looking to the wider marketplace embracing North America, the Far East, and South-East Asia. “We believe these trades, and the emergence of a growing trade with China and other adjacent areas, have great potential,” he said. The corporation planned a significant presence in every area of New Zealand’s major trade centres. Mr Julian said the corporation must protect the needs of shippers with an efficient and economic service. “It is up to us as the nation’s shipping line to put forward sensible and reasoned arguments for our survival and, hopefully, expansion,” he said.
