Kaniere man dies in accident

Greymouth reporter A young Kaniere man died when the car he was driving plunged into a swollen Raft Creek, 9km from Hokitika, at 1.15 a.m. yesterday. He was Clinton John Read, aged 20, a draughtsman, whose parents are the licensees of the Kaniere Hotel. Mr Read and two companions were travelling from Kokatahi to Hokitika when the accident occurred. The two, Warren Borlase, of Harihari, and Robert Cumming, of Arthurstown, managed to get clear of the car, but Mr Read is thought to have been trapped.
