Nuclear weapons
Sir,—The timing of the proposed visit of the U.S.S. Texas is particularly insensitive as it may well coincide with the anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. With so many people opposed to nuclear armaments and power, how can our Government condone these visits from any ship likely to be carrying nuclear arms? We would like to take this opportunity to express our wholehearted opposition to nuclear weapons and to ask people to think about the implications of accepting vessels in our ports which may carry these weapons of mass destruction. — Yours, etc., TIM ANDERSON, E. C. BRINDED, VICKE B. A. KKER. July 6, 1983.
